The Wormhole

Chicago, Illinois

Local shop. Uses other local coffee roasters’ espresso.

What could possibly be better than an 80’s sci-fi themed coffee shop? I mean, c’mon! And yes, that’s Doc’s time-traveling DeLorean up there. Still not the T.A.R.D.I.S., but close enough!

Because, who wouldn’t?

So, besides the epic-ly awesome atmosphere and decor, there was the coffee!

  Who ya gonna call?

So after much contemplation over the menu, Mom settled on The Topanga and I got a Homemade Vanilla Bean.

First, The Topanga, because it wasn’t technically coffee.

Oops, wrong photo.

According to the menu, The Topanga was a drink consisting of tamarind, mint, and peppercorn infused cascara. Just like the character it was named after, it was… Let’s say… Interesting. It tasted sort of like an iced tea lemonade with the sweet, raisin-like flavor of tamarind. The mint and peppercorn flavors were very subtle, but there.

The Vanilla Bean. I didn’t realize until the end of my cup that the syrup actually did have vanilla bean seeds in it. The espresso had good flavor and the syrup wasn’t too sweet. I do think that they used 2% milk instead of the typical whole milk, which in my opinion takes away from the drink a bit, but it was still very good. There wasn’t a very thick layer of foam on top, but the latte art still turned out perfect.
